She has long been committed to train ee welfare: serving as New Trainee Mentor for several years before being e lected as Chief Resident and finally Trainee Representative for the West o f Scotland. Today\, Ms Kaleena is Lead for Acute Eye Care at University Ho spital Ayr where she champions for international medical graduates and act s as clinical and educational supervisor to medical students\, trainees an d optometrists. Outside work\, she is a wife and mother to two children\, living in the rolling hills of Ayrshire.\n\nAfter qualifying in 2016 as an Optometrist\, Gemma began working in an independent practice outside Pais ley which she eventually took over in 2019. She gained her independent pre scriber (IP) qualification in 2020 and now mentors trainee IP optometrists and pharmacists\, as well as supervising final year optometry students at Glasgow Caledonian University\, with specialty interest in emergency eye care and dry eye. Gemma worked with Johnson &\; Johnson for 10 years\, where most recently she was content developer for their educational progra mme STEP® to support newly-qualified optometrists increase their clinical skillset.
