Our History

The History of Women In Vision UK

Gender inequality exists in ophthalmology and vision sciences. However, there is an uprising of women working in vision-related sciences and healthcare pioneered by Mariya Moosajee, Julie Daniels and Maryse Bailly. These women have recognized a need for change and have taken action by establishing the Women in Vision UK (WVUK) network.

Women in Vision UK was founded by three women in London, but has since grown far larger. The founders are:

Maryse Bailly, Associate Professor in Cell Biology, UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, London.

Mariya Moosajee, Professor of Molecular Ophthalmology at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, Group Leader of Ocular Genomics and Therapeutics at the Francis Crick Institute, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, UK

Julie Daniels, Professor in Regenerative Medicine & Cellular Therapy, UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, London
