We were honoured to be joined by best-selling author, broadcaster, DEI consultant, motivational speaker, disability rights campaigner Dr Amit Patel. He shared his experiences of overcoming barriers and the skills he has developed to deal with vision loss.

Dr Amit Patel is a best-selling author, broadcaster, DEI consultant, motivational speaker, disability rights campaigner and sits on the Board of Trustees for the Vision Foundation, London’s sight loss charity.

Dr Patel studied medicine at Cambridge University and qualified as a doctor, specialising in emergency medicine and major incidents, but during medical school was diagnosed with keratoconus. Eventually losing his sight in 2013, Dr Patel is now registered severely sight impaired. Today, Dr Patel is an active campaigner for accessibility, speaking out against the issues that disabled people face daily and is committed to achieving greater representation of disabled people across all areas of life, Dr Patel strives every day to challenge himself and challenge other people’s perceptions of disability.
