This year’s meeting will take place on Friday 27th November 2026 at the Grosvenor Hotel in Glasgow. That’s right, Women in Vision UK is going up north! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Event Programme

The meeting theme for this year is The Balancing Act, where our thrilled to have our insightful keynote speakers: Gemma Clark and Ms Kaleena Bulan Michael.

Ms Kaleena is an Ayrshire-based Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon who graduated from Dundee and trained in Glasgow, where she served as Clinical Research Fellow for the Glasgow Centre for Ophthalmic Research contributing to numerous ophthalmology and oncology trials. She has long been committed to trainee welfare: serving as New Trainee Mentor for several years before being elected as Chief Resident and finally Trainee Representative for the West of Scotland. Today, Ms Kaleena is Lead for Acute Eye Care at University Hospital Ayr where she champions for international medical graduates and acts as clinical and educational supervisor to medical students, trainees and optometrists. Outside work, she is a wife and mother to two children, living in the rolling hills of Ayrshire.

After qualifying in 2016 as an Optometrist, Gemma began working in an independent practice outside Paisley which she eventually took over in 2019. She gained her independent prescriber (IP) qualification in 2020 and now mentors trainee IP optometrists and pharmacists, as well as supervising final year optometry students at Glasgow Caledonian University, with specialty interest in emergency eye care and dry eye. Gemma worked with Johnson & Johnson for 10 years, where most recently she was content developer for their educational programme STEP® to support newly-qualified optometrists increase their clinical skillset. She now focuses on expanding her optometry practice, working as a charity trustee of Creating a Sustainable Gryffe, based in Renfrewshire, and motherhood.

Our meetings are particularly welcoming to early-career researchers and trainees, providing a supportive environment in which to showcase their work. Professionals at every career stage are invited to submit their work for consideration as an oral or poster presentation.
